My research is focused on self-regulated learning and the use of healthcare simulation in health professions education. My research program has a goal-oriented focus on how medical trainees and clinicians develop self-regulated learning (SRL) skills, and on how they use those skills to learn foundational clinical skills (e.g., invasive procedures using simulated patient models). I believe strongly that developing a robust understanding of an educational construct, like SRL, requires using multiple theoretical and methodological approaches.
