Adaptive radiotherapy of lung cancers.
Dr. Bissonnette’s lab has been incorporating biological information, in the form of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) images, to monitor the biological response of tumors to treatment and increase radiation dose to parts of the tumor that are particularly active in an attempt to improve control of the disease and survival. A clinical trial is currently under way to evaluate this approach that, if successful, could be offered to patients and improve the odds of successful treatment for patients with locally-advanced lung cancer.
Quality and safety.
Dr. Bissonnette is an active participant in the Cancer Program’s Cancer Quality Lab, who aims to transform cancer care by advancing quality science and addressing real world issues in oncology. By researching quality improvement and implementation science, we aim to continually improve practice within the cancer program, maintaining the highest standards of quality while improving efficiencies and encouraging improved treatment outcomes.
