Dr. Kirsch is a radiation oncologist with expertise caring for patients with bone and soft tissue sarcomas. He has received a number of awards for his research accomplishments and several awards for mentoring including the 2014 Duke University Dean’s Award for Excellence in Mentoring and the 2021 Career Mentoring Award in Basic Translational Science from the Duke University School of Medicine.
Dr. Kirsch is a clinician scientist with expertise caring for patients with bone and soft tissue sarcoma. The Kirsch laboratory uses sophisticated genetically engineered experimental models and human sarcoma cell lines to study sarcoma development, progression and metastasis. His team uses these models to develop and test novel therapeutic approaches to cancer. Dr. Kirsch also leads clinical trials for patients with sarcoma; he is the overall PI for SU2C-SARC032, an international randomized trial testing the combination of radiation therapy and immunotherapy.
