Dr. Madani is an endocrine and acute care surgeon at UHN, and a researcher at The Institute for Education Research (TIER). He attended medical school at Western University and completed his general surgery residency training at McGill University. During his training he also obtained his PhD in surgical education and innovation. He subsequently completed a clinical fellowship in endocrine surgery at Columbia University-New York Presbyterian Hospital. He has been working in the Division of General Surgery at UHN since 2019.

Dr. Madani’s research focus is to develop and validate new technologies and methodologies to improve surgical performance. Examples include computer vision deep learning models that are capable of identifying surgical anatomy and augment surgeons’ mental model, telestration tools for live on-site and remote telecoaching, intra-operative navigation and post-operative video analysis, the use of haptic devices and machine learning for performance assessment.
