At UHN's Annual General Meeting on June 17, 2015, and after six months of serving as UHN President and CEO, Dr. Peter Pisters presented his observations and vision for the future of UHN.
His talk began with a summary of UHN's leadership in health education, research and patient care. The second half of his talk served as a call for a national discussion on preventable medical errors. During his presentation, he played a video that provided a number of sombre statistics regarding medical errors. To address this issue, he outlined "our path forward to reduce preventable harm"—an institutional commitment that will be defined by quantifiable goals and timelines.
"We are famous for what we have done." Dr. Pisters said, in reference to our achievements. Regarding our new initiative to reduce patient harm, he concluded by saying, "We need to be famous for what we will do."
