My research activities are focused on two major themes: (1) identification and treatment of psychosocial morbidity in medically ill patient populations, and (2) approaches to translating knowledge on best practices in Psychiatry to better patient care. My clinical interests are medical psychiatry and collaborative mental health care, with a specific focus on the areas of bariatric surgery, hepatology and delirium care.
Our bariatric surgery psychosocial research team is conducting studies examining psychosocial predictors of bariatric surgery outcomes; factors for improving adherence to care post-surgery; establishment of psychosocial quality indicators for bariatric psychiatric care; and the efficacy of novel psychosocial interventions, such as telephone cognitive behavioural therapy in bariatric surgery patients.
Our continuing professional development research team is studying methods for integrating quality improvement into mental health professional development activities and methods for enhancing knowledge translation in the psychiatric care of medically ill patients. We are researching the role of apps and simulation to improve team-based delirium care in these activities.
