Posted On: September 21, 2016
Dr. Brian Hodges, UHN’s Executive Vice President (EVP) of Education and TGHRI Affiliate Scientist, is the recipient of the prestigious 2016 Karolinska Institutet Prize for Research in Medical Education. This international award is awarded every two years and aims to “to recognize and stimulate high-quality research in the field, and to promote long-term improvements in educational practice.”
Dr. Hodges’ research has changed how medical professionals are trained: his findings have led to the integration of realistic simulations, as well as the inclusion of assessments for mental health and communication skills in medical education programs—approaches that are now standard practice in Canada and have since been adopted by other countries.
The award will presented to him by the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm on October 13, 2016. The Karolinska Institutet is a major hub for medical research in Sweden and also hosts a Nobel Assembly, which has served to select Nobel laureates in Physiology and Medicine.
