The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) have announced the results of their Spring 2023 Project Grant funding competition. The Project Grant program is designed to support ideas that will advance health-related knowledge, research, care and outcomes. At UHN, 23 research teams were awarded a total of $12.1 million through 16 research grants and seven bridge grants.
Across Canada, 381 research grants and 12 bridge grants were awarded for a total of $325 million. Early career researchers received 104 of these grants and six grants were awarded for Indigenous health research projects.
UHN awarded projects include those studying heart failure risk, novel targets driving blood disorders, the effectiveness of cannabis for osteoarthritis, hepatitis C disease models, acute myeloid leukemia treatments, deep brain stimulation, hospital characteristics, adverse event rates and more.
