Tell us about your role at UHN.
I work in the corporate office at Toronto General Hospital, where I provide administrative support to Dr. Brad Wouters (Executive Vice President, Science and Research) and Dr. Andrew Boozary (Executive Director, Social Medicine and Population Health). I have been working with Dr. Wouters for over five years, and with Dr. Boozary for three years.
Tell us about you and what you have been up to at UHN.
I come from a legal background and am very happy and excited to be working in health care with so many talented people. I get to be a part of some really exciting and inspiring work in research and in social medicine. I work behind the scenes to support the day-to-day operations of both portfolios, to help ensure that the programs run smoothly. I accelerate approvals, coordinate meetings and schedules, and facilitate other administrative tasks, so that our teams can focus on making clinically important advancements and discoveries. I'm also a volunteer staff wellness champion, through which I help to promote wellness for our colleagues in the corporate office and in research.
What makes UHN an ideal place to advance health research?
I think the most important thing to exceptional science is collaboration and a willingness to share ideas and think outside of the box. At UHN, our research team members are highly supportive of each other. This environment makes UHN the ideal place to advance health and to make a difference.
What do you see for the future of health research, and what gets you excited about it?
Through my daily job, I get to hear about all the amazing work that we do and how it is helping patients in a hospital setting. Seeing the impact of research and learning is really exciting. With stable funding in place to attract the best talent and to make research an appealing career, I think Canada, which already punches above its weight, will continue to be a world leader in health and innovation.
Do you have any interests outside of work?
When I'm not working I volunteer with different organizations and spend time with family and friends. I like to stay busy with gardening, cooking, and writing. In 2021 I was published in a collaborative book about grief and grieving, and I plan to write more in the future. To learn more, see my Twitter and LinkedIn accounts.
