Congratulations to three UHN researchers for receiving national and international honours.

Toronto General Hospital Research Institute Senior Scientist, Dr. Margaret Herridge, was awarded the Critical Care Lifetime Achievement Award by the American Thoracic Society. The award is given “in appreciation of a career devoted to research and teaching of the science and practice of critical care medicine as well as outstanding service to the Assembly on Critical Care.” Dr. Herridge’s academic focus has included the evaluation of long-term outcomes of acute respiratory distress syndromes and prolonged mechanical ventilation. She has more than two decades of experience in clinical research and has published three manuscripts and two editorials in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine.

Dr. Deepali Kumar, Clinical Researcher at the Toronto General Hospital Research Institute, received the Clinical Science Established Investigator Award from the American Society of Transplantation for significant contributions to her field. Dr. Kumar’s clinical and research interests focus on infectious diseases and the epidemiology of emerging infections in organ and stem cell transplantation. She is a scientific pioneer in using immune system-monitoring strategies to predict the risk of infection.

Princess Margaret Cancer Centre researcher Dr. Jeffrey Lipton received the 2018 Brian Druker Award Recognizing Extraordinary Care in Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML). The award, given by the Canadian CML Network, recognizes extraordinary contributions in the areas of patient care, research and advocacy. Dr. Lipton has led a number of clinical studies evaluating novel drugs that target CML cells. He is the first Canadian to receive the award.

Congratulations to all!
