Posted On: August 01, 2016
PM Cancer Centre Scientist Dr. Marianne Koritzinsky was recently named the recipient of the prestigious Michael Fry Research Award. Dr. Koritzinsky was selected as the top candidate from a pool of international early researchers for “extraordinary contributions to the field of radiation research.”

Dr. Koritzinsky’s research program explores the effect of poor oxygenation (hypoxia) on tumour growth and malignant behaviour. Her findings have shed light on the effect of hypoxia on protein folding, cell metabolism, gene expression and cancer cell signalling, with the aim of identifying new targets for anticancer therapeutics. Her achievements have also been honoured through the ESTRO-Juliana Denekamp Research Award and a Terry Fox Research Institute New Investigator Award.

The award will be presented to Dr. Koritzinsky at the 62nd Annual International Meeting of the Radiation Research Society in October 2016 in Hawaii, where she will present the Michael Fry Research Award Lecture. Dr. Bradly Wouters, who is currently the Interim Director of the PM Cancer Centre, also received the Michael Fry Research Award in 2008
