TRI Senior Scientist Dr. Catriona Steele was named the 2016 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC).

The award recognizes Dr. Steele as a leader within the field of speech language pathology—a field in which she has published over 120 research articles and serves as the leader of the research workstream for the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative.

At UHN, her research program explores the pathophysiology of dysphagia (swallowing impairment) with a focus on motor function during swallowing; the use of tongue pressure resistance training as a treatment for dysphagia; and the development of medical devices to help detect swallowing impairments.
