The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) has announced the results of its Fall 2023 Project Grant funding competition. The Project Grant program is designed to support ideas that will advance health-related knowledge, research methodologies, patient care, and overall outcomes.
At UHN, an impressive 34 research teams were awarded nearly $24 million, spanning 27 project grants, and 7 priority announcement and bridge grants. Nationwide, a total of 374 project grants, 150 priority announcement grants, and 6 bridge grants have been allocated, for a total investment of approximately $325M. Of the 374 grants, 91 were awarded to early career researchers, and 7 were awarded for Indigenous health research projects.
Among the awarded projects at UHN are investigations into cancer, heart disease, chronic viral infections, acute myeloid leukemia treatments, effects of cigarette smoking, deep brain stimulation, and a myriad of other innovative studies.
