The award is presented to "interventional radiology pioneers" who have created new devices and therapeutics that have advanced the care of those suffering from complex conditions. "Award winners demonstrate a passion for medical breakthroughs that improve patient care," said Dr. Stephen T. Kee, the Chair of the Society's Foundation Board.
Dr. Murphy is renowned as an innovator, having filed over 60 patents for new medical devices and therapeutic approaches for spine and neurological pathologies. Recently, he developed a vertebroplasty treatment that is now used worldwide to relieve painful spine compressions. In addition to his research appointments, Dr. Murphy serves as the Director of Clinical Research Faculty at Techna.
